The red lentil, sorted thrice and split to a uniform orange-red, or carried whole in its russet skin. A staple of the Ramadan table, sent on in volume to the Gulf.

Provenance

Masoor comes from the lentil bowl of Madhya Pradesh and the fields of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and India is also the trade's great refinery, taking in whole lentil and sending out premium sortex splits. The Gulf is a main pillar of the masoor trade, its demand rising in the weeks before Ramadan.

Carriage & Packing

Whole, football, and split forms are carried, the splits triple-passed through the colour-sorter to a uniform orange-red. Bold and extra-bold calibres are declared by lot, and shipments are timed to the Ramadan calendar, positioned from mid-Shaban, as the wholesale houses of Dubai buy.
